Highlights of the location
The resort is located in an ancient fort area, which was one of the strategically located islands earlier connected to Thevally by a pedestrian wooden bridge, and to Mathilil with a narrow strip of land. Ancient records points out to the fact that the area had been a helm of activity, the remnants of which are still evident.

Architecture and Landscape
The design of the resort, The Raviz evolved as an environmentally sustainable building, which expresses cultural continuity of the region. The landscape was evolved on the bases of restoring the bio diversity of the coastal area of Lake Ashtamudi, as the location of the resort is significantly linked to the history of the costal heritage of Travancore lakes. Landscape was designed using sustainable landforms, which resembled the ancient landscapes and the plants used is all local specious, for easy maintenance without pesticides. The water edge of this old boat building yard is restored to its natural state by providing lateritic boulders to enable hideouts to enhance the breeding of fish, crabs and supporting living organisms. The plants used at the water edge include a few species of mangrove to recover the ecological systems. The trees, shrubs, and turf were selected to suit the natural local ambience and the host and nectar plants for butterflies and fruit trees to feed the birds and squirrels.

The two large palatial building and the two twin cottages with private pools of this heritage property reflect the architectural character of Travancore palace architecture. There is a three hundred year old historic timber building transplanted from Anchal and restored to grandeur. This is an authentic ethnic example of timber house architecture prevailed in the south Travancore area. A two hundred years old timber house was transplanted from Muvatupuzha. This building reflects the heritage timber architecture of central Travancore.

The concept of the two main buildings was evolved to recreate the ambiance of 19th century, using the precise natural building materials. Creating an epic held up to this era. It is an attempt to capture the soul of a colorful and romantic Travancore age that remains one of history’s most charming eras. The Roadside entry of the resort presents the most exquisite example of ethnic and authentic timber architecture of Travancore. The ceiling of the porch has the acclaimed ‘thirukazukol’ (radiating rafters) and a ‘Chandrawamada’, which is a very rare feature that has disappeared from today’s architectural context. The breezeway, which connects the porch and the lobby, is a faithful portrayal of the traditional roofing system of Travancore. A short stroll down the corridor brings you to the lobby, which is a three storey high spacious reception, and suddenly gives a surprise of the grand panorama of the Lake Ashtamudi; pass through to the lakeside door and, the whole vista opens up beyond the lakes inviting waters. On the left side of the main lobby, is a sunset lobby, which is a part of the wrap around verandah, from here we get a view of the inviting large swimming pool, which has a capacious party lawn. The privacy wall between the driveway and the pool made of the rustic local laterite simulates the movement of waves. The restaurant and bar positioned in the south of the main lobby has a wrap around veranda and at the lower level, space for open dining, with a beautiful view of the lake.

The convention centre in the north block can accommodate more than thousand spectators for wedding and there are two pre function areas to accommodate the hosting of parties and high tea. A convention centre to hold about 250 with sufficient pre-function area is available in the south block. The Ayurvedic Spa is a heaven on the rooftop providing breathtaking view of the lake Ashtamudi, the Western Ghats and the landscape surrounding the property. It is certainly the best location to relax and enjoy the uninterrupted changing moods of the most acclaimed beautiful spot of Gods own country.

A 270-meter old road paved with laterite stones along the lower level of the coast provides an interesting walkway for various activities. A boat jetty to bring the guest through the water way is in a bay along the walkway providing panoramic view of the lake. The highlight of two main structures is the viewing tower on both, from where we can get the grand panoramic view of the lake that surrounds the island, and the sunrise, sunset and the grandeur of the lake on moonlit nights.

Kottakkal Arya Vaidyasala is opening its Pharmacy and a treatment centre in this hotel. This is for the first time that they are arranging a treatment facility in a resort.

The hotel is opened on 19th August 2011 , by Superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
